WELLINGTON ORIENTAL BAY PAVILION COMPETITION
WHAT COULD BE MORE ARTISTIC THAN THE SEA ?
At the heart of Oriental Parade facing a waterfront promenade and sandy beaches we thought what could be more artistic than the Sea itself to exhibit. So, we wanted to create a space that can exhibit the vibrant rhythm of Wellington Bay Harbour. We thought of sub framing the panoramic view of the harbour and its beauty with a single frame.
The site pleads an organic form which catches the lively relation between sea and its surrounding topology of Wellington. Fluidity of the sea is embodied through the form. The proposition tries to incorporate contemporary built form with the fluid nature of the bay.
The space has no specific function but could be used as anything the community claims. It intends to provide a place for spending a quality time immersed in the spirit of nature. We opted to re-establish the intimacy between sea and urban life by breaking the barrier created by concrete and asphalt.
Through the creation of sublimity and a sense of purity the homogeneous structure creates an opportunity to perceive the meaning of life in a different note engulfed by the vastness of nature.
