COX’S BAZAAR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TERMINAL

Cox’s Bazaar is one of the most disaster prone area of Bangladesh. The site for the airport terminal building is very close to the coast and there is no barrier from the storm wind and cyclones that happens very frequently in that area. My first challenge was to make a building form that can sustain the heavy wind flow and air pressure that forms during cyclones and similar disasters. To reduce the air pressure and force of wind I minimized the building surface in the direction of wind. Further breaking the form the passageway of air was created.

To sustain the heavy upward air pressure during cyclone the structure was cross beamed which have maximized the stability of the entire form.

Organic green spaces throughout the building ensures the connection of passengers and nature and gives the opportunity to escape from the hectic activities of a terminal building.

MAG OSMANI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

My main objective was to improve PASSENGER EXPERIENCE and provide a space ingretated with the surounding lush greenaries. I zoned the areas according to their functional requirements cut SLITS of vegetation between them thus providing the passengers a space for RELIEF AFTER STRESSFUL LONG QUEUES. The bays connecting the separate masses will serve as a relaxation and socializing zone for passengers.360DEGREES runway view from the departure lounges is achieved through JUXTAPOSITIONING the height of the masses and creates a FORM BASED HIERARCHY AND UNIQUES VISTAS from different parts of the terminal. The service areas of the terminal receives ample sunlight thus providing a HEALTHY WORKING SPACE for the employees.
